GAP analysis

Every company has business processes that are unique in some respects. The same is true regarding the business rules: companies, that are operating in the same business segment often use different rules. It means that in case of deciding to buy and introduce a new IT system the company has to face the problem, that the system behaves „almost well”, but in many cases it needs some refining. Existing modules need to be modified or something is missing that is needed to develop taking into account the company's special requirements.

On the other hand, introducing a new IT system gives a good possibility to the company to reengineer its processes. Maybe some of its processes are the result of the lack of IT support in the past. Other processes can be the result of routine: the company operates this way so long that nobody considered seriously a different approach before.

The aim of the GAP analysis is to help to synchronise the business demands and the IT possibilities. It is necessary to determine the set of business rules and processes that are implemented in the IT system in a way that is unacceptable for the company. At the same time however it is advisable to rethink the company's existing processes too and considering a different way of operation that suits better to that of currently supported by the system.

During the analysis process we examine both the business and IT sides. We go through the documents containing the business rules – including laws, regulations and directives – and consult with those experts on the business and IT side as well, who can give information about the business rules and the business processes. Besides determining the gaps between the requirements and the existing way of working of the IT system, we help to decide whether the IT development or retailoring of the existing business processes would be the better solution in case each of the gaps.

Our GAP analysis is a detailed functional IT specification as well, and serves as the main documentation of the IT development.
